Listed below are some examples that can make your gift “keep giving.” Many of these gift-giving opportunities will allow you to fulfill your charitable intentions, and may result in immediate and/or possible future benefits for you and your family.

TYPES OF GIFTS

(The entries below are brief descriptions of gifts. Please contact the Philharmonic for further details.)

IMMEDIATE GIFTS OF CASH

Cash contributions are deductible as itemized deductions in the year you make the donation(s), up to 50% of your adjusted gross. Excess charitable deductions can be carried forward for up to five years.

GIFTS OF SECURITIES

The best stocks to donate are obviously those with increased value. However, depreciated securities are not necessarily unworthy of charitable contributions. In order to preserve the best tax advantages, with regard to appreciated and depreciated securities, please contact the Philharmonic Office.

MATCHING GIFTS

If you work for a company that participates in a Matching Gift Program, then the company will match your gift to the Philharmonic on a predetermined basis. Please check with your Human Resources Department for more information.

GIFTS OF MUTUAL FUNDS

Contributing mutual fund shares can provide the same tax advantages as appreciated stocks. Due to the great complexities involved with the transfer of mutual fund shares, please begin the transfer process well before December 31.

GIFTS OF REAL ESTATE

A charitable contribution of property is most attractive when there is no mortgage balance and the property and increased in value. Based upon the fair market value, you may claim an income tax deduction, avoid all capital gains taxes and remove that property from your taxable estate. You may transfer real estate to the Philharmonic at any point, but please consult your tax professional or financial advisor prior to a real estate transaction.

DEFERRED/PLANNED GIFTS

Deferred Gifts are often called Planned Gifts because they are integrally connected to your financial and/or estate plans. They may range in size from very small bequests to multi-million dollar trusts. They are deferred gifts because, even though they are given today, the Philharmonic will not realize their benefit until some time in the future. Please contact the Philharmonic Office for more information regarding various planned giving options.
