Young People's Concerts
2013 Young and Very Young People's Concerts
The Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic’s Young People’s Concerts provide a unique opportunity for children in grades 3 through 6 to explore classical music as part of their educational curriculum. New this year, the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic's Very Young People's Concerts cater to children ages 3-6, allowing them to experience and learn about live classical music, perhaps for the first time!
Each year, the Philharmonic presents two youth oriented live concerts with coordinating classroom materials to over 3,000 students in private, public, parochial schools in addition to home schooled children.
Participating schools receive study booklets and CDs that present background information on the music and composers in a fun and age appropriate format, while the CD presents excerpts of the upcoming concert’s music with a “ play-by-play” commentary by our Music Director and conductor, Larry Loh.

Take a virtual tour of orchestra instruments.
As a young person growing up in central Pennsylvania, I followed my mother around as she played violin in the Harrisburg Symphony and taught Suzuki violin lessons in our home. I had no idea that it was unusual to have such incredible opportunities and that exposure to the universal art of great music was not in every household. This is why our Young People's Concerts are so important! What a wonderful chance for our young people to see and hear a top orchestra, playing their hearts out! Since becoming a professional conductor, I've made it my mission to enthusiastically present music especially to young people. I know from personal experience, and from the experience of my siblings (who are a writer and a photographer - neither are musicians!) that exposure to great music has so many benefits!
